Pioneer BDP-HD1. Preview.
Still no news of a UK release date on the HD1 from Pioneer. US Release dates had been put back and back, with the player finally becoming available in March 2007.
When it does arrive in the UK the HD1 is likely to be one of the most expensive High Definition players. The BDP-H1 is the first Blu-ray player from Pioneer. a highly respected DVD manufacturer and as such this first offering should reveal what the Blu-ray format can really do. Its debut will be eagerly watched by the two competing format consortiums.
The BDP-HD1 will be marketed under the Pioneer Elite brand in the U.S. at a price of US$1,500. The unit is complaint with the DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) guidelines so it will plug into a home network and interact with other DLNA-compatible products, and has Microsoft Corp.'s Plays For Sure certification to ensure compatibility with Microsoft-protected content.
The BDP-HD1 is designed to deliver 1920 x 1080p output, the highest of the three high definition signals, with up-conversion of standard-def DVDs to 720p or 1080i/p via HDMI, for one-cable hookup. Unfortunately it will not play standard audio CDs or the high resolution SACD and DVD-Audio discs.
